Fleming Beach on the island of Maui has been named "Best Beach in America" by Stephen Leatherman of the Dr. Beach Web site. D.T. Fleming Beach Park on the west side of Maui is a popular spot for surfing, bodyboarding, swimming and picnics, although the waves can be too powerful for swimming during the winter months. Two other Hawaii beaches were included in Dr. Leatherman's 2006 Top Ten, including Hanalei Beach on Kauai and Hamoa Beach on Maui. Dr. Beach has named a Hawaii beach the best in America eleven times in the last fifteen years:
