The 2006 Kilauea Volcano Marathon will take place on July 29, 2006. The event will include a 26.2 mile full marathon, a 10 mile run, and a 5 mile walk and run. The full marathon route crosses the lava fields of the Kau Desert and it is one of the most difficult marathon routes in the world because of its extremely rough and uneven terrain. Runners must be able to finish the full marathon route in 7.5 hours or less.
