Is Your Hawaii Vacation Rental Legal?

Neighborhood vacation home rentals and bed and breakfast accommodations are notoriously unpopular with Hawaii's property owners and residents. Most locals in Hawaii want to protect their neighborhoods from tourism development and restrict visitor accommodations to certain areas, in order to preserve the unique culture and lifestyle of Hawaii. There are many unlicensed accommodations in Hawaii, and it is a source of conflict between the owners of those accommodations and local communities. A group of concerned citizens on Oahu have created an organization called the BnB Coalition, a group focused on encouraging Hawaii visitors to stay only at hotels and legally licensed vacation rentals and B&B establishments. The organization's Web site includes tips for identifying illegal accommodations, tricks booking agents often use to convince you there is no legal issue, what the government of Hawaii says about illegal accommodations, and other information.

    How to Make Lomilomi Salmon

Lomilomi Salmon Lomilomi salmon is an appetizer that appears on the menu of nearly every Hawaiian luau. It's a mixture of salted salmon, fresh tomatoes, and fresh onions and it is often served on a bed of crushed ice to keep it fresh tasting and chilled. The preparation method used to make lomilomi salmon was introduced to Hawaii by early western sailors, who included salted fish in their on-board food provisions.
