The first phase of the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor will open to the public on December 7, 2006. The museum is located in Hanger 37, near Ford Island's distinctive red and white striped air traffic control tower. The general public is invited to the museum's opening ceremonies to watch a performance by the Pacific Fleet Band and hear VIP guest speakers, including test pilot Chuck Yeager, astronaut Wally Schirra, Retired Admiral Ronald J. Hays, and Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Admiral Gary Roughead. The above photo of the museum building was taken on December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
