A Hawaii state judge has ordered a woman to stop using her Lanikai home as a bed and breakfast rental, and if she does not comply she will be fined $1000 per day and could possibly have a lien put on her house. This ruling is the end of a long conflict between this woman and a neighbor who shared a driveway with the B&B home. Because of this lawsuit, many of the approximately 90 illegal bed and breakfast rentals and vacation homes in Kailua and Lanikai have stopped operating and several of them are up for sale. Vacation home rentals have never been popular with Oahu's local residents, who want to prevent the tourism industry from developing the entire island of Oahu.
