Alaska Airlines Might Start Flying to Hawaii

Alaska Airlines is trying to get Federal Aviation Administration approval to fly long distances over water, so they can fly a more direct route to Cancun, one of their current destinations. There is speculation they are also hoping to start flying to Hawaii and Central America. Alaska is trying to get an "Extended Twin Engine Operations" certification that will allow them to be up to three hours away from an airport while they are flying over water. They expect to have their certification by the first quarter of 2007.
