This week, Brian Anderson of Anekona Properties purchased the Y-shaped, 700 room Ilikai Hotel, which first opened on the west end of Waikiki in 1964. The Ilikai Hotel currently operates under the Marriott Renaissance brand, but Anderson is in discussions with several other operators, including Hard Rock International, to take over management of the hotel. Nearly 600 units at the Ilikai hotel are privately owned, fee simple condominiums and about 80 units are owned by timeshare operator Shell Vacations. Most of the privately owned units are rented out as hotel rooms by the condo-hotel's management. The hotel's new owners are planning a $40 million renovation project that will close the Ilikai's Yacht Harbor Tower for a period of time.
