Hawaii Senator Inouye's Wife Died on Monday
Maggie Inouye, the wife of Hawaii's United States Senator Daniel Inouye, died of colon cancer on Monday, March 13, 2006 at the age of 81. From Senator Inouye's wrenching four page memorial to the woman he fell in love with at first sight: "It was a most special blessing to have had Maggie in my life for 58 years. She was my inspiration, and all that I have accomplished could not have been done without her at my side. We were a team." Margaret Shinobu Awamura was born on June 23, 1924 in Wailuku, Maui and she married future senator Daniel Inouye on June 19, 1949. In 1964 she gave birth to their son Daniel K. Inouye, Jr., who is known as Kenny. Our thoughts and prayers are with Senator Inouye and his family during this difficult time. Senator Inouye's Statement on the Passing of His Wife
