Great Hawaiian Rubber Duckie Race
The 19th Annual Great Hawaiian Rubber Duckie Race will take place in Waikiki on Saturday, March 25, 2006. The Waikiki Rubber Duckie Race is a benefit for the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii. There will be pre-race celebrations at the McCully Shopping Center in Waikiki from 9 am to 12 noon, and at 12:45 "Hawaii's Shortest Duck Parade" will proceed from the McCully Shopping Center to the Kalakaua Avenue Bridge over the Ala Wai Canal. 20,000 rubber duckies will be dumped off of the bridge into the canal, and the race will take 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the wind. The first 50 duckies across the finish line will win their adoptive parents a prize. It costs $5 to adopt one rubber duckie and you can do it using a form on the event Web site. I bought a 6-pack for $30 that includes six rubber duckie adoption certificates and a coupon for a free pizza.
