The United States National Parks Service and the Naval Region of Hawaii will host the 64th annual Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration today at the USS Arizona Memorial on the island of Oahu. The ceremony will take place from 7:40 to 9:30 a.m. and regular public tours of the memorial will begin at 10:45 a.m. The USS Arizona Memorial is one of the most visited sites in Hawaii, but the monument above the sunken battleship is beginning to deteriorate. There is currently a national fundraising effort underway for a $34 million project to rebuild the memorial. The reconstruction project is expected to begin in December of 2007.
