Update on the New Hawaii Quarter Coin
On April 23, 2007 Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle selected the final design for the new Hawaii quarter coin. That coin will be minted for ten weeks beginning in November of 2008. The Hawaii quarter is the last coin to be minted in the United States Treasury Department's "50 States Commemorative Coins" program. Five new quarter coins have been released each year since the program began in 1999 and each has a theme based on one of the fifty states. The Hawaii quarter is the last coin in the series.
