First Hawaii Superferry Ship To Launch This Week
The Hawaii Superferry expects to begin offering high speed ferry service between the Hawaiian Islands in July of 2007. The first of two Superferries will be launched on Thursday, January 18, 2007 from the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. The new ship cost nearly $100 million to build and it is larger then two football fields. After being launched the ship will go through a series of sea trials and it will be delivered to Hawaii in the Spring of 2007. This first ferry will offer transportation between the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Work is underway on the second Hawaii Superferry and it is scheduled for delivery in early 2009. The second ferry will provide service between Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii.
