Queen Liliuokalani's Home is Now a Museum
Washington Place in the historic capitol district of Honolulu is one of the oldest residences in Hawaii. It was built by a wealthy sea captain in the 1840's and it became the home of the future Queen Liliuokalani when she married the captain's son. The queen was arrested inside Washington Place before she was deposed and she died in one of the downstairs bedrooms. After Queen Liliuokalani died, her home became the Hawaii governor's mansion. Today it is a museum and it can be toured by the public if reservations are made in advance.
