The Helmano Christmas Tree Farm in Wahiawa, Central Oahu, specializes in beautiful Norfolk pine trees and they have thousands available for Christmas 2006. Norfolk pines originated on Norfolk Island in the South Pacific, and they have been a popular choice for Christmas trees in Hawaii for many years. In addition to having a unique layered appearance, the needles of Norfolk pine trees do not fall off, and the trees will last up to 3 months when placed in water. Most of the Christmas trees at Helemano Farms are 6 to 12 feet tall, but they also haver taller and shorter trees for people who prefer them. Visitors to the farm stroll through the orchard, select the tree they want, and Helemano Farms staff cut it down on the spot. The trees are cut carefully, so each stump can grow another tree.
