Inter-Island Ferry Coming to Hawaii in 2007

Hawaii Superferry The new inter-island Hawaii Superferry is scheduled to begin operating in the second quarter of 2007, with two 4-deck luxury catamarans large enough to carry approximately 900 passengers and more then 200 cars, trucks, and buses. In the beginning there will be daily service between Oahu and the islands of Maui and Kauai. A second ferry is scheduled to be added in the first quarter of 2009, and at that time service to the Big Island of Hawaii will begin. The ferries will travel at a speed of approximately 45 miles per hour, making the Oahu/Maui and Oahu/Kauai trips 3 hours and the Oahu/Big Island trip 4 hours.
